Welcome to my food website! My name is Ginger. I live in Dothan, Alabama with my husband Paul. I am a high school French teacher, a cook and a traveler. My husband is a music professor whose job moved us to southern Alabama! I have been cooking since I was 15 years old. I was always inspired by my Great Aunt Mildred, a great cook and hostess, as well as my own high school French teacher Regan Hailman who brought unusual food to the classroom. Mrs. Hailman inspired me to cook, travel, and become a French teacher. In short, she showed me an art of living that I probably wouldn't have found on my own.
Even though I grew up in Mississippi, for many years I lived and taught in Memphis, Tennessee. This is the city I consider "home." It is where I spent my 20's and 30's, where I met my husband, and where I had the time of my life. My favorite food in the world is Southern food. By this I mean fried chicken, turnip greens, black eyed peas, cornbread, pecan pie, caramel cake, and many others. My favorite places to eat when I'm home in the South are the places that have "meat and threes" like Ajax in Oxford, Mississippi and Soul Fish Cafe, The Cupboard, and Abbay's in Memphis.
Because I have traveled so often during summer breaks and school holidays I have learned to love food from all over the world (especially France) and the US. The US has so many regional specialties. I can't wait to discover more. Every place I visit inspires me to throw parties and cook new dishes for my husband. I created this website to have a place for the recipes, travels, restaurants, and food ideas I'm always collecting. I hope you learn something new and get inspired to travel and eat by exploring my website.
